A fortress located in Figueres, Spain: a small farming town to the north-east of Barcelona, famous as the birthplace and home of Salvador Dalí. His theatre-museum was less than impressive, but the town itself was beautiful. I set out on a circuitous hike around The Fortress, not realizing the zig-zag or sun-shine based design of the outer perimeter, while excellent at deterring intruders, also doubles or triples the total length of the trail.
I made it back to the beginning after dark.
