12 December 2023: Because the sky is blue, it makes me cry! I just finished this beautiful vase with flowers in charcoal and oil, which I’ll probably end up framing at work. I have these huge images in my head, simple compositions of significant memories and locations VIEW SCULPTURES that I either can’t or don’t want to forget. The smoke spot on the roof, the first time I saw Irène…sometimes I wonder if I’m still alive. Below is work from 2023:

08 December 2022, 12:10 AM: I’m not sure if it was a date with Linda but it went well, and we’ve been texting more. Part of me feels guilty abandoning my past and the vision of my future that my past self had. But you can never predict what a piece of art will look like, nor what the process is to creating it. Besides, I can’t oh I remember. I know I need to live life, and I’m quite certain everyone dies with things they’re still meaning to do. Artwork from 2022:

“Dinner”, 17 x 21 in.

“Dedicated to: Irène”, 9 x 10.25 in.

“Five vessels”, 12.25 x 12.5 in.

“The Vendor”, 11 x 14 in.

31 December 2021: I’m thinking about the New Year’s Eve in San Francisco when Julia and I stayed in and watched tv on the blue, dusty recliner, and I rested my head on her shoulder and she rested her head on mine, and even though I felt lonely I felt lonely with her. I don’t know how many more times I saw her after that. I hate how fleeting each moment is; everything will never be the same as it was thirty seconds ago, and thirty years from now, if I still remember anything, it’ll seem like a dream, a past life, or a story I once heard or a photograph I saw. And I hate it. But that’s what makes a moment special. Artist statement:

Self-portrait, charcoal, 2022

Theo Schweiger 萧世通 (b. 1998) is a multidisciplinary artist from Shanghai and San Francisco, currently working in Chicago. His focus is on painting, drawing, and photography, working primarily with figure and experience to explore the basis of subjective reality: perspective, emotion, reflection, unconscious, and time.

Tormented by forgotten moments and intangible figures, Theo 萧世通 works tirelessly to preserve what he can of the past while exploring the nuances of life in the present. His artwork emphasizes the fleeting and malleable nature of existence by embracing the unforgiving, cyclical relationship between imagination, hope, and memory.
